Background Information

Results of a recent FBI report and increased gun purchases and ownership shows that as gun ownership goes up, crime rates drop.

At the bottom of the page you can also view or download a .PDF file which is a large report showing the larger number of gun shows in a local area, the lower the gun related deaths. Report courtesy of Firearms Owners Against Crime.

Violent Crime Low

January, 2009

In September, the FBI released its annual crime report, showing that the nation's violent crime rate is, to quote the Justice Department, "near a thirty-year low." The nation's murder rate is near a forty-year low. Meanwhile, the number of privately owned guns in the United States is at an all-time high and rising by over four million annually. The major U.S. cities with the highest murder rates were cities with severe gun control: Detroit, Baltimore, and the District of Columbia. As it has been in years past, states with Right-to-Carry concealed firearms, including Pennsylvania, had much lower violent crime rates than the rest of the country: Total violent crime in Right-to-Carry states was twenty-four percent lower, murder twenty-eight percent lower, robbery fifty percent lower, and aggravated assault eleven percent lower. This means that guns owned by law-abiding citizens do not cause crime. They prevent crime. We recommend that all citizens own guns and learn how to use them safely.
